Last.fm will soon have Videos

The UK based online music recommendation community, Last.fm will expand their site with videos later this week. Users will be able to create personalized video channel, similar to how they create their radio station based on their taste. Audio on these music videos will be encoded at near CD quality 128kbps, compare to YouTube’s 64kbps.

Last.fm will initially feature videos from independent labels like Ninja Tune, Nettwerk Music Group, Domino, Warp, Atlantic and Mute, along with some big names like Arctic Monkeys, Moby and Aphex Twin. They’ve also partnered with EMI and Warner. Negotiations are being done with Universal and Sony as well.

Last.fm eventually plans to offer “every music video ever made on the site, from the latest hits to underground obscurities to classics from the past”. In other news, Last.fm is rumored to be in talks with Viacom for an acquisition worth $450 million.
